Walk into the past to WWII where a family is torn apart by death and circumstances children should not have to endure.  Siblings Peter and Charlotte are caught in a whirlwind of death, painful transitions and through no fault of theirs, they travel separate roads to adulthood.  A nun, the mob, the death of a pope and a twist and turn of events bring Peter's life as a Cardinal, and Charlotte's life as an escort to a point where all roads collide.
